So... I've started this thing and now what? It seems dorky to blog about blogging, but what do I know?
Begin at the beginning... I tend to have brief tirades from my soapbox, and people generally 'like' my comments... etc. I have always really loathed writing, never could fill the length requirements. Why write 10 pages on a topic when I said what I had to say in 3?
Perhaps I was ahead of my time. Now with character limits, we try to fit our existence into 150 characters or less...
I've mulled over beginning a blog for awhile...
I recently began following DEADMAU5's blog here..."FML - The Blog Of Fail"
I was initially interested in familiarizing myself with his "sound." Then he collapsed during a performance this summer, cancelled some dates, and I became curioser about him as a person. I don't know the guy, and don't know how much I can know about a person based on a blog, but I could kinda relate to him like any other dude, any other musician. I hope that he is the regular guy he seems... but who knows? I will still enjoy his performance...
I have noticed for quite awhile that I've always enjoyed the performances of people that I knew personally more than some stranger up on a stage behind a mic/mask/make-up/piano/guitar... etc.
I enjoy seeing someone I know from this side of the 4th wall, letting go and getting down. Fame takes the best part out of watching a performance... the "make-believe." If you are watching a stranger perform, what are we watching? When I watch a friend, acquaintance, or colleague perform, I know that they are bending outside of their normal "reality." When I watch a stranger perform, I wonder who am I watching here? A stylized representation of what someone has decided that I am supposed to want?
I can decide for myself, thank-you-very-much!
... and I hope that he will post a comment "1st" on one of my blogs!
I'm a dork, right? I have a freaking blog, don't I?!
